"Dances With Wolves" Vs. "Smoke Signals"

There were a few differences in the way that Indians are shown between "Dances With Wolves" and "Smoke Signals. Just a couple of them are these....

Firstly, the Indians in "Dances With Wolves" were actually believable that they were Indians....... (as in they didn't seem suspiciously Canadian....). Another difference is that Dances With Wolves takes place in the past (The Civil War), while smoke Signals takes place in the recent past as it shows them in a more present context. Although these things are true, one of the biggest differences that I noticed was that the Indians in Smoke Signals were not very aggressive at all and they seemed to be a little bit less connected with their past. However, in Dances With Wolves, the Sioux Indian tribe takes the more aggressive initiative and tries to steal John's horse and kill his former companion and they even were thinking about killing him at one point in the movie.

I think that although these two movies were made about almost similar topics and people, the Indians in them were very different.

Hurricane Paul Approaches while getting ever stronger

A few days ago, a hurricane watch was issued for the southern tip of Baja, California warning the residents of the approaching hurricane Paul. Early this morning, Hurricane Paul was a mere 455 miles off of the coast of Mexico, in the Pacific Ocean. The storm is moving at an estimated 5 mph Northwest towards Mexico and Baja, California. According to experts, the winds making up the storm are blowing near 110 mph at the fastest, which puts hurricane Paul at a category-3 hurricane. However, many believe that as the storm creeps towards the shore it will grow in size and wind speed and could potentially cause a lot of damage to the residents of the land where it is estimated that it will hit.

Restaraunt Review

One restaraunt that I feel very strongly about is Dot's Diner. I LLLLOOOOVVVVEEEE their food and it always tastes good. The service is pretty god almost all of the time, but if you don't like the hippie-type waitors and waitressess, you might find the place a little bit scary. If you have never been to Dot's, I highly recommend going there and if you have eaten there, help them out and go again and spend lots of money so that they stay in business. One of my favorite meals is the "Arnol'd Eggs" special, which is made of eggs and lots of meat over a home-made buiscut that is absolutely wonderful. Pile that on top of a plate and top it with gravy and you have one "Arnold's Eggs" plate. Mmmmmmm.................

Wild Horses being rounded up

In Rio Blanco County, on thousands of acres of land, there are over 400 wild horses still living and supporting themselves. However, the Bereau of Land Management says that the amount of land that they live on can only support up to around 230 horses because of the food and water supplies. Many of the extra horses that the Bureau is worried about were rounded up by helicopter and were moved into a pen, which was definitely a very controversial move. Many people think that the Wild horses should be protected more and that the Bureau is targeting the wrong animal.
Many of the horses that were moved were injured, which could play a major part in how the animal grows up. Also, many of the horses that were moved are being put up for adoption very soon.

Should Colorado recognize Columbus Day?

I think that Colorado should recognize Columbus day, but I don't think it should be a huge holiday that everyone gets off work and school and stuff like that. I think that sure, Columbus played a pretty big role in the devlopment of this country, but that role wasn't exactly good. However, I think that Colorado should recognize the day and at least say something about Columbus.

The Era we studied for the first presentation was a perilous time filled with unhappiness and violence. This led to a bloody war. Was this necessary?

That was a very long title.......I ran out of room at the end there.....

Anyway, The era that we studied (the pre-revolution) was most definetly a time that was full of a lot of violence, and it did lead to a very bloody war. However, I think that it was necessary for our independence.

One example of why I think this is the Boston Tea Party. The English were taxing the colonists without their consent and they were essentially just taking their money to help their own government without even seeing the colonists at all. I think that without that tea party, there might even still be taxes in this country and even laws and stuff like that that is not what we might want, but instead what the English want. I believe that this was incredibly important to U.S. Indenpendence.

Another example of why this was necessary was all of the things that England was doing to the colonists without their consent like taxing them and making them do things that would help out the European government. Independence isn't something that just happens overnight, like a sore arm. Independence, In my opinion, has to be earned through a ton of hard work and sometimes even huge battles, like the one that took place following the time period we studied. It definetly wasn't just given to the U.S like a gift, but they had to work at earning it through a horrible war. However, if it wasn't for that war, the U.S. might not even be a country today.

The question says that "The era we studied was a perilous time filled with unhappiness, stupidity, and violence. This led to a bloody war.....". I think that the time period that we studied was definetly full of peril, unhappiness, and violence, but I think that it is a matter of opinion of whether or not it was full of stupidity, as the question suggests. The colonists thought that the English were full of stupidity, and the English probably thought the same thing about the colonists, but I think that the colonists made a huge movement that worked out in their favor tremendously in the end. Looking back, I don't think that the colonists (if they were alive today) would think that it was a time in which they were acting stupidly. I think that they might be proud of what this country has become. (maybe not, but they might be).

Overall, I think that the time period that we studied that led to a very bloody war was completely and totally necessary for independence against the government of England. I believe that even though there was a lot of blood spilled and there was a lot of controversy over tons of things, those things were absolutely crucial to the development of the country.
